Chokebore Lodge
Chokebore Lodge

Alongside Cook Brothers Construction, the 4Front team is proud to have completed the restoration of  Chokebore Lodge, one of Christchurch's oldest domestic buildings, first built in 1856. It was a celebrated racing stable, which the Christchurch City Council now owns.

Chokebore Lodge is a category 1 historic place and one of the oldest residential dwellings in Christchurch.

Its unique Cob construction offered many challenges with restoring the electrical systems in the building.
4Front Electrical carefully removed all existing wiring whilst still retaining the original steel conduit where possible within the building.

As part of this unique project, new steel conduit was installed & powder coated to match the existing services on site.
Heritage light switches & power outlets were imported from Australia to maintain the classic look throughout the cob building.

The goal was to retain the lodge's original appearance as much as possible while bringing it up to new building standards.

The team at 4Front Electrical take great pride and care in the work being done to preserve history and heritage in Canterbury, and our involvement in restoring the historic racing lodge for future generations.
